Our Summary

Low-frequency PEMF has shown to be effective in treating osteoporosis but the exact process has yet to be verified. With this, the project aims to test the effectivity of PEMF exerts on intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and receptor activator of nuclear factor-?B ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast genesis. Cells were exposed to PEMF with 75 Hz frequency and 1 mT intensity. Results showed the inhibitory effect of PEMF on RANKL-induced osteoclastic differentiation and decreased intracellular ROS generation during osteoclastic differentiation. This may serve as the groundwork for future osteoclast-associated bone disease treatment using PEMF.
