Effect of pulsed electromagnetic field with different frequencies on the proliferation, apoptosis and migration of human ovarian cancer cells

Our Summary

PEMF is known to stimulate bone formation for patients with osteoporosis. Since one to the complications of ovarian cancer is osteoporosis, treatment of PEMF should be considered. To investigate the effects of varying PEMF frequency on proliferation, apoptosis and migration of human ovarian cancer cells (SKOV3 cells) is the objective of this study. The cells were exposed to varying frequencies of sinusoidal PEMF radiation at 1 mT intensity. Results are evident that 8 Hz frequency showed significant inhibitory effects in the proliferation of SKOV3 cells and stimulating apoptosis. The data also showed that optical parameters should be chosen with care in treating osteoporosis after ovarian cancer treatment.
