Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy improves tendon-to-bone healing in a rat rotator cuff repair model

Our Summary

Since the effects of PEMF treatment on soft tissue healing has barely been studied, this review will focus on the effects of PEMF on rotator cuff healing. A total of 70 male adult rats were divided into 3 groups, one of which is the uninjured control group while another group had bilateral repair treated with PEMF and the last group had bilateral repair plus cage activity. Results showed that at 8 weeks PEMF group increased modulus and had more rounded cells while after 16 weeks, bone quality improved. In conclusion, PEMF did not alter joint function and improved tendon healing in its early stage.
